Reference and article management
How do I keep track of all my references? There are many choices for reference management. Do not be tempted to do this by hand...it becomes nightmare-ish when you begin editing. You can download EndNote or use OneNote (or Reference Manager), but the simplest program is Mendeley. It is free and doesn't crash, and all your references are stored on their system so that you can access them from any computer. It will allow you to insert citations in your manuscript as you type...and will move them around for you as you edit.

The best thing to do is to start using your program when you are developing your project. As you are doing your literature reviews, save the references as you find them and they will be waiting for you when you start your manuscript.
- Go to http://www.mendeley.com and click the Create a free account button.
- Fill out your stuff and click Finish.
- Mendeley will auto-detect your operating system and automatically begin downloading the program.
- Follow the instructions on how to install the program.
- Open the program once installed.
- The tutorials at the bottom of the installation page are 2-3 minutes each and show you how to use Mendeley. They are good and you should watch them.
